Hi everybody
I have been on the xbox modding scene for a few years and have just modded my sons Gamecube.

Saw the Viper GC Extreme on Divineo, ordered it Thursday arrived first thing this morning ( Saturday ) and about 90 minutes later was in the Gamecube and flashed with Cobra 1.6 bios using the USB lead and my laptop. No problems what so ever :-)

Now I want to back up the games he has. I understand that you can rip the games from the Gamecube to the PC using the USB adapter.
Is there a tutorial for this as I can't find one.
Can find the one using the BBA but I want a USB tutorial.

What software do I need ???

So what I have is
1 x modded Gamecube ( Viper GC Extreme chip + USB adapter )
1 x USB cable that came with the chip
1 x Laptop ready to go haha

I have downloaded some software but not sure what it is I need
Thank you for any help on this
Mick

Only a few people on this board have a ViperGC Extreme, so that's why you haven't gotten a response.

I myself have a qoob Pro, and my knowledge of the ViperGC Extreme is limited to hardware specs and it's BIOS features, so I'm can't help when it comes to actual usage.

I know a few people on this board have figured it out, so maybe they'll post eventually.

I can rip the game from GameCube to my PC using the USB Adapter and the software CobraBackup.exe

This combination rips the game in about 20-30 minutes

I am then left with an ISO of 1.35 GB (1,459,978,240 bytes) in size.

Now when I try to burn this to disk ( Using Nero )it burns but the GameCube can't read it.

This is either because of my disks or the laser needs tweaking.
Will get some more disks and try again
Thanks for your response though
Mick

What disks, burner, and version of Nero are you using? These factors all affect your success rate as much as the pot does.

hi, have you try the fstfix software? this thing fixs something for gamecube iso, not sure though since i don't have any modchip but looking forward in getting one soon. I'm thinking of getting the reg viper gc, but was wondering if i can buy a usb separate since this chip doesn't come with a usb cable, upgrade to cobra 1.6 and use cobrabackup.exe to rip game? any info would be great, thanks.

Fstfix is used to put garbage data back into wiped images (iso's without garbage data), so that the iso file will always be 1,459,978,240 bytes.

Since he ripped the game himself, there's no reason to use fstfix because the garbage data hasn't been removed and is still a part of the iso.

And no, the original Viper can't rip games via USB as the ViperGC Extreme is the only commercially produced chip capable of ripping games via USB. To rip games with the original Viper chip you'll need to use a BBA. Using Cobra BIOS 1.6 won't make a difference.

Ok I have backed up to my PC and burnt it back to disk using Nero 6.6.0.12. My DVD writer is a Pioneer A106 and the disks are Traxdata Mini DVD-R.

I have the chip flashed with GCOS 1.5 as I can't get the back ups to load with Cobra 1.6.

Now one of the backups load no problem but the other 2 I have done can be a pain in the rear end getting to load.

Is this a problem with the POT, which has a value of 200 or could this still be the disks I am using.

Thanks again for any help
Mick

I've never used Traxdata, so I couldn't tell you whether they're any good. Your Pioneer burner should work well enough along with your version of Nero.

Before adjusting the pot again, I'd try and get a hold of some Riteks, Fujifilm, or Verbatims and see if those work any better. Also, try burning at 4x as that seems to get me the best results.

If all else fails, try lowering the pot again. However, don't go too low as it can lessen the lifespan of the laser diode, which will do more harm than good.

I have set the POT to 170 and it is reading the back ups no problem now.
I can even use the cobra 1.6 bios aswell.
Does anyone know roughly when the Cobra 2.0 bios is coming out ??

They don't have a set schedule, so your guess is as good as anyone elses.

Although, I doubt they'd go straight to 2.0, as 1.7 seems to be the next logical step unless they make some sort of huge update.
