I replaced my VCR with a liteon 1101/1105 series dvd recorder. I have no problems recording or playing back on the unit, but when I try to play one of the discs on another recorder, they lose sound or play in fast forward in certain sections of the disc. I use verbatim DVD+R for the unit. It says you can use DVD-r's as well, it just needs to format them before use, would using -r's make the discs more compatible or not?? ANy help would be appreciated.

I gather that you are finalizing the +R disks before atempting to play them in another player
Some units (espc older)will not, or have trouble with a +R disk, many will not have anything to do with a +RW (the +RW does not require finalization). Try those + disks in some other units and check before going to the - disks. A number of LiteOn users report better results with + disks.
You might try and book-mark the + disks this could make other units think the + disks are - disks but I don't know if your machine can do this. There are otherways but another issue

If I were to copy one of my DVD+R copies made in the recorder on my computer using DVD-R media, would this solve my problem with compatibility or will it have the same flaws??

Where did this disk made on a PC come from
Your post refered to the LiteOn 1101/1105 series which are stand alone units
You Indcate that your machine will burn a -R disk. If so it would be a 1105
If you mean taking a +R disk made on the 1105. riping on a PC and than burning the result to a -R disk {SURE}
But WHY, your machine (you say) will burn a - disk

If the disks are finalized. I believe you are having a Compatibility problem with your other machines as I idicated.
I would solve the proplem, as I indicated, by checking with other units. If necessary replace these units.
If you dom't wish to do that, Why the PC, just burn a -R disk with the 1105

Well, turns out I was wrong. It's just a generic manual for the entire line and my player doesn't burn -r. Discs are +r finalized, tranfered some stuff from video tapes of our team that I wanted to copy for friends. I also don't want to take 4 hours for each copy, the computer will make them quicker for me.

I can play it in my machine, just worried about them being able to use them. Don't want to waste a bunch of my verb + discs if they aren't going to work.

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna pick up a pack of 25 -r verbs at bestbuy today. Just got teh sales this week and a 25 spindle is only $7.99 for 16x verbs, so we'll see how that works.
