Hi there,
I recently purchased a Epson r220 for all my disc printing needs.Ive gone to cdcovers.cc to get the covers ,but just have some questions in relation to this.presumably mos of the covers on this site are scanned, ive downloaded a few and they seem to have a silver ring around the edge of the disc, where the scanner has scanned the silver rim around the pressed disc.how do i avoid this silver ring being printed onto my discs.apologies if i explained that poorly.

Also what inner and outer settings do you use.
Im using Ritek G05 8x hub printable discs (Got them before i knew they go bad over time!!) and an epson r220

i'm not sure on the measurements.. but in order to print.. i crop right to the image line.. so.. the lines on the side, are on the edge of the image.

once i get one scanned in or done.. i'll post it.. i'm sure others will have more info.. i know saugmon uses riteks.. i dont know if he uses printables.. he goes with the office depot brand i want to say..

alkohol uses the ty silver printables.. and the ty white printables.
i use the TY white printables.

Sugarray, although my name is listed as newbie I have a lot of experience with using the R220 printing on both hub printables and similar non hub printable discs. Each brand will have a slightly different setting. In Epson Print CD you need to use the third Icon down from the left (Picture) not the one below it which is the cd Icon (background). When using the Picture Icon it will allow you to adjust the size of the outer disc size enlarging it to the point where you can bring the cd image beyond the silver band you mentioned. When you bring it all the way to the edge of the disc this will give you a more professional look to your finished product. I use the inner settings from 18mm to 20mm and outer 119mm to 120mm. These settings are for hub printable media. Using these settings will allow you a finished disc without any white showing. Even if these settings print beyond the printable area the ink will not adhere to the unprintable plastic area and can easily be removed with a paper towel at the outter edge and the inner hub as well. Not having any white printable area showing is what you want shoot for. I like to have a perfect backup when using my Epson R220 and with the results I get most people don't know which is the original from my backup. High resolution scans are a must for quality cd printing. Some sites like Covers To offer some extra high resolution covers as well. Good Luck!

I have not seen any glossy inkjet printables available online. Not sure if any glossy printables exist with premium media currently. Even the silver ones offered are actually a satin silver printable surface that create unusual holographic type images which are cool looking on certain covers. There are spray on acrylics that are being sold at some media outlets online that do give a shiny appearance once applied and offer some water resistance as well. Unless Verbatim or Ty's offer a glossy hub printable, which I am unaware of, that would be the next closest thing at the moment. As far as photo paper for printing goes I have found that HP flyer brochure glossy paper, which is thinner and less costly as well serves to print as close to the original as I have seen. Using a high resolution scan at the best printing mode offers stunning backup covers that fit the bill nicely.

Sugarray:

Try this site,my favorite, for a lot more variety of movie labels. Both case and disc covers:

http://covers.to/index.php

They usually have a slew of different labels, full hub/reg hub/even shiny ones in there.

Let the label download and "save picture as" to your label folder.

You may have to drag the disc cover over every once in a while, but no biggie. They do have some awesome-high resolution covers. Just put the name of the movie in the search bar. Then sort out the foreign covers and find the highest resolution.

ok.. as for the glossy.. as of right now.. all there is just really standard inkjet printable for regular..

nothing glossy.

the hp paper.. you can print on it.. but not for discs.. that would bring us to sticky labels.. which is a horrible idea.. dont even mess with those..

just stick to the inkjet printable dvds.

I too have an R220, havent used it much at all yet, but had bought some printable CDr's and have done everything according to the instructions but I keep getting an error as to the tray isnt seated correctly. Under the tab, under the 2 rollers and arrows are lined up. Tray goes in completely then a few seconds and it is ejected with the error. Tried numerous times and have done a cple searches as to help but haven't found any threads. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I just got one of these yesterday and mine was doing the same thing. Come to find out, it was too close to the wall, that little tray get pulled out the back and needs a few inches so try and move it further from the wall. That solved my problem, if that doesn't work then I don't know what to suggest!

If you want that nice finished look and you don't want your ink to run if the disc gets wet, than purchase "Patricia Nimrock Clear Acrylic Sealer" at WalMart. One can will last several hundred discs and the colors appear more vibrant. I use the matte finish, but they also have a glossy finish. I was worried the sealer would lead to dvd rot, but I tested some that were done over a year ago and they are still testing out at 98 (verbs). I think it was just under $5 a can. Here's alink to multiple cover sites although some aren't around anymore. Daprogger used to be one of the best, but it's members only now I believe. Hirescovers is an excellent custom site. The other two I mostly use are covers.to and cdcovers.

Also, when your ink runs out, get your replacement from here:

beltline, I have tried Patricia Nimocks Clear Acrylic Sealer as well as another similar item also sold at Walmart's - Rustoleum Speciallty Lacquer sold in the paint section. Both provide a rich color depth to the DvD's as well as a water resistent finish. A word of caution though, using these repeatedly even in well ventilated areas can pose serious health risks. Patricia Nimocks product contains Acetone and the Lacquer spray coating from Rustoleum contains Toulene. Both are Cancer causing agents and are well defined in the Danger warnings listed on the labels of these products. Accidently breathing even a small amount of toxic fumes from these products you run the risk of harm especially to your lungs. Although they provide a nice finish to the DVD's I cannot endorse their use due to the potential health risks associated with them. My recomendation is to use only with extreme caution. I will finish using my product exercizing extreme care and always wearing a respirator when I do. It's just not worth the gamble.

Mozilfox, I completely understand your concerns and agree with the mask and ventilation. I only use the sealer out in the garage with the garage door open. I leave them out there for at least 24 hours before retrieving them and bringing them in the house. After the first use I read the warning label and saw what you said. However If I stayed away from everything that could cause me harm, well than I wouldn't be living anyways. I highly agree to be safe when using, but no more than most other hazzards ie: gas, spray paint, etc.

Once again I do appreciate your concerns and am glad you brought it up. I sometimes forget we're all not adults here and some kids could be reading these posts. I figure an adult can make up their own minds and would highly suggest to any kids that they seek parental guidance before using any products such as this.

Using these products one can't be careful enough. I used it outdoors but I guess I didn't think it would be harmful shortly after the DVD's were semi dry. Wrong. The fumes they give off are still toxic until it is completely dry. Beltline, you have it correct and I too should have waited 24 hours before bringing them into the house as I felt a reaction from its toxic fumes. Instead, I allowed about 20 or so to dry while I was in the room not thinking of the potential harm and developed symtoms of chemical poisoning. It was enough to put a scare in me that if I continue using these sprays I will certainly take all precautions so as not to put myself in harms way ever again. Using these sprays does give a nice finish but I feel that if they are going to be used they simply must be handled with extreme caution. Since I was using test samples of both Acetone based and Toulene based sprays at the same time to see which looked better I have no way of knowing which one or both had the adverse effect on me. Both sprays coated evenly and neither could be distinguished as better than the other. They both looked identical. Both had gloss finishes that gave depth and enriched the inkjet colors with water resistency similar to the original DVD's. Incidently, the warning label on my Patricia Nimocks sealer states: Warning This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause Cancer. /caveat emptor

Weird, mine saids "Birth Defects". No Lie.

Yeah, I acutally have a stack of dvds, in cases, that have already been printed to. They're all sitting on a shelf waiting for "Patricia". I wouldn't use the spray during the winter in the garage because it was too cold to leave the garage door open. I'm hoping to get out there and spray them this weekend.
