I have been using dvd shrink for sometime now and everything has been fine until last week. When I now try to encode a dvd, the rate speeds up at a decent rate but then falls right back down and shuts down the computer. I have tried clonedvd2 and the same thing has happened, so i know it's something to do with my computer not the programs. I have taken my computer severals places with the most help being that they think i might need more ram. If anyone has had this problem or might know what is wrong please help me.

then that is your problem. you dont have enough space on your hd. when you cram stuff on your hd and it gets too full it will shutdown. i would have no less than 15 gigs of free space to encode a movie. especially if the movie is close to 9gigs.

try freeing up some space then defrag the computer and try again. you have enough ram to do the job. also make sure no other program is running while you run shrink.

did you only have 11gigs free when you backed up these movies? also how big were the movies.

regardless, 11gig is a tight space to work in when encoding movies. try defraging the drive and run a virus and spyware scan on the pc. something might workout from doing that. if you got files scattered all over the drive then the free space you have is also scattered. so defraging might do some good. and spyware files can interfere with your pc's performance. after that you could move on to other possible solutions if that doesnt work. eliminate simple solutions before you go onto more complicated solutions is a good rule of thumb with pc problems.

thread teleported to relevant forum.

i suspect this is heat related, ie Shrink is CPU intensive...

I just got it fixed, and it was heat related. I needed to download a new bios for my computer. Thanks everybody for your input.
