I have a v7 PS2, and a week ago installed a H2O pro chip mod. I was having lots of problems getting back ups to play, and then today I couldn't play any kind of disc, I just always got the please insert PS2 disc screen. I thought my laser was dirty or something so I took it apart and cleaned the laser and tried it before putting it all back together and it worked perfectly, every time with every disc, even the once I couldn't get to play at all over the past week, then I put my PS2 back together and went to play a game, and it once again wouldn't read anything, so I unhooked the hard drive and network adaptor and now it works perfectly again. Why is it doing this and how do I fix it, cause almost all my game saves are on my hard drive.

A couple questions. Does the O2 Chip support loading games off a HD? The tech specs were a little iffy. It says it supports Devolution mode, but not necessarily loading games off an external HD. Does it auto ATAD patch (patch your HD, so you can use a non Sony HD), your HD? If yes to both those questions, then maybe it's a compatibility issue with your Western Digital HD. It definitely wouldn't be the first time. Here's a HD compatiblity list.

I have a sony hard drive. Its the one that came with final fantasy on it. I am not sure if the chip supports loading off a hard drive. I never tried it. The problem I'm having is, that when the hard drive is installed, the cd/dvd drive wont read any cdr's dvd'rs original PS2 discs or anything, I just alwasys get the please insert original format PS or PS2 disc.

I'm not sure it does or not. It says it supports loading elfs off the MC, meaning you should be able to load a patched HD Loader off the MC. That's if it supports loading games off a HD. Crans is a modder, perhaps he's a little more familiar with the H20 chip. The modders I've talked to don't bother with non DMS, Matrix Chips. So I'm not terribly familar with it. You realize that you need to HD Loader or HD Advance to boot games off a HD, right? You can find a patched HD Loader here: http://www.sksapps.com/hd/HDL_ISO_v7c.rar

To get it onto your Memory card you FTP your PS2 or install it with the H2O chips boot manager/firmware.

The chip makes no mention of supporting games off a HD. Hell getting into Devolution mode at all requires a double reset. That probably means it doesn't. Sorry, but unfortunately this is another instance of a second rate chip falling short. If you invest in another chip in the future, get a DMS 4 Pro SE, Matrix Infinity, or Crystal Chip 1.1. I'm not 100% that it won't load games off a HD, but me think's the official site specs would mention something about. Oh well, you can always play your backups burned to quality DVD Media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.

Here's the official site specs: http://d-vices.com/subzero/h2ov3.php

I'm not trying to load games off the hard drive, Im trying to load them off the original game discs or backup discs, wich it wont do when the hard drive and network adaptor are installed. I don't really use the hard drive other than to store game saves, which now means I always have to un install and re install the hard drive if I want to play a saved game. I guess my other option is to buy more memory cards, as I only have one right now.

Oh okay. Well glad that's cleared up. Yeah I guess you'll just have to improvise for the time being.

I think that it may be a power problem rather than a incompatabitlity problem, as the mod chip and the hard drive both run on 5 V. I am guessing that the hard drive takes too much power and there for the mod chip can't function properly. Its just a guess, but I'm going to try and put thicker ground and 5v wires to the mod chip. Rhight now I only have 26 gauge wire running to them.
