pioneer dvr 106 wont read bulkpaq 8x

Hi. I have 2 data dvd-r`s, bulkpaq 8x, and my writer won`t show any of the files on them. The discs definitely work, i have tried them on other drives.
The drive will read original DVD movies, and installation cds etc
it also won`t show data on DVD backups, even though these backups work
Any ideas whats wrong?
I updated the firmware also, from Pioneer.com. No joy
