datawrite classic 2x bad? or toshiba sd-r5002 burner bad?

hi i have spent a lot of time and money trying to get the perfect dvd backups from my toshiba sd-r5002 dvd writer.

i have been using datawrite classic 2x grey top discs(as i read they were supposed to be an excellent choice).

started burning dvd-r's at 2x speed, the result was starting to skip towards the end of the movie in my standalone dvd player but worked o.k. in my ps2?

then i tried burning at 1x, the result most would playback fine on my standalone player too.

how come this happens ? both the dvd burner and discs are rated 2x.

another problem now, lately though i have been burning at 1x every time and i have had a few discs which will fail to load up in my standalone dvd player, why is this ?

so anybody who can tell me is it :

crap media, or crap burner?

Datawrite classic grey top 2 speed dvd-r are perfect for me,i'm surprised you are having problems with them,90 per cent of the time i use the entire writing area of the disc [i use 4400mb of the space]and the films i do are fine in every chapter,never a problem at the end of the disc,which is why i am using all of the disc.Each time i use 100 grey datawrite i have 100 good discs,i have used around 400 of the grey ones so far in the last few months.I use the pioneer A04 rewriter,and nearly always write at 2 speed,i also use the bright yellow datawrite 1 speed discs,again no problems.In general there are plenty of other brands i've had problems with but i'm happy with the datawrite discs.

you telling me you've burned 400 at 2x with no coasters!
i find that pretty hard to believe.

yes it is true total sucess with datawrite,i only got coasters with bulkpaq and other brands.

do they play on all players afer 2x burn or do you also prefer to burn at 1x ?

some discs can easily be read by my ps2 but some have a bad case of freezing up blocky frames on my lg 5253 do you reckon the dvd player just cant read dvd-r ?

I use a pioneer dvd player model dv u7,one of the latest models,all the discs i do work in this player,i've tested the grey discs in 3 pioneer players and all are fine in each of them.the grey discs are the most compatible i have found,overall the discs i have done have been tested in various different brands of player and the results are good.a friend uses the same disc and he has done around 400 to 500 good discs,he has only had 1 bad disc out of a few hundred.
I don't know the answer to your problem overall,as i would say the toshiba rewriter is equal in quality to the pioneer drives.
