Sup Guys,

I'm hoping someone can steer me toward the right path here. I'm currently copying a DVD that's 7.95GB in size. I'm using DVDFab Express with a DVD-R 4.7GB disc (fujifilm disc). I've been using DVDFab Express for a while now and never got this error. The error i get is "Failed when writing dvd.:5" At first i thought it's probably the size difference, but you have to remember DVDFab compresses the original DVD file size. So i then copied the DVD to my harddrive to see what the file size would be and the file size is only 4.68GB. Then i tried using the folder on my Hard drive as the source and is still get the same "FAILED when writing dvd.:5". Have anyone seen this before?? Thanks in advance for your reply.

RiK.

My 1st guess is the file is too big unless that's a typo - a 4.7 disc will only hold 4.38 (deceptive isn't it?). If that's the case then you'll need to reduce it somemore.
If a typo then my 2nd quess is since Fujifilm ain't the greatest your burner may not like them. Make sure your firmware is up to date and if burning at 8x or higher or your burners max speed slow it down at bit.

Binkie,

Thanks for the info. i totally forgot about the file allocation for medias, just as in a hard drive you don't get a full 80GB or whatever. I try to reduce it some more and see what happens, i'll also check if there's a firmware update for my burner. thanks again.

Not a problem! If only they would list the 'real' number on things - but why make things a little simpler :)

binkie is absolutely correct..... but what I don't understand is:

how did your settings change? I always had the settings for DVDFab Express DVD size set at 4384MB and mine never changed! DVDFab is one of my favorite programs and never had to reset the setting!

Binkie

So i inserted another DVD that i had, one that was 6. something GB and it burned perfectly without any errors. So i'm guess it's definitley like you said the file size. I've been putting of getting a dual layer burner, cause sony is coming out with their Blu Ray burner (actually already out in the Asian market), but i guess i can spend the $60 or $80 until then. LoL. If i had a dual layer disk i wouldn't have had this prob. anyway.

IHoe,

I dont think it changed, like i said to Binkie i just think the disk i was trying to copy was too big. I wasn't using a dual layer media, just a reg. DVD-R. But you can change the setting if you want in DVDFab. just click on the little start looking icon on the top of the DVDFab interface.

I won't wait on the BluRay - just mo. Expensive + the discs to burn with will be outrageously priced for awhile. Then you have the compatability factor on your players, pc etc.
Even dual layer discs are still a bit pricey - on sale $3 each. And if not done right costly coaster! I do a few here and there but I'll stick with the single layer for now ;)
