Is there a program that can copy protected DVDs 1) without copying to hard disk first and 2) not requiring Nero to be installed? I have Roxio, and wouldn't mind if it needed that.
clonedvd in conjunction with AnyDVD is my personal favorite.... its about 5 clicks from start to finish but sorry, you are going to need your hdd for any program that you find because those 7 gigs have to go somewhere before they are burnt to the dvd...... (i belive you need 5 gigs of temporary space)
Another good free option is dvdShrink in conjunction with DVD Decrypter.
I would still recommend AnyDVD in conjunction because neither DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink are being updated anymore but AnyDVD is updated usually weekly...

I agree with punx777, but there is an option (I do not recommend it becuase it is unstable...Intervideo Copy 3 and I believe 4 copies on the fly...I have used it in the past but because of inconsistencies, as with other who have used it, stopped using it...I stick with my favorite three: Rebuilder Pro, Recode 2, and CloneDVD 2...the temporary folders that they use are deleted afterwards so it shouldn't be a big issue. CloneDVD 2 has it's own burn engine, and if you open up Decrypter prior to burning and change the book type on +R media to Dvd rom then the back ups will be Dvd Rom. Someone at AD mentioned this trick and I use it all the time when using CloneDVD 2.
