Hi there, I am hoping that one of you will be able to help me!

I have a Lacie external DVD writer which works beautifully on my laptop. However on my desktop it is another matter. When I plug it in (via Firewire), the PC recognizes it no problem. I am able to insert a DVD/CD ok. However, it spins for about half a minute, then stops. When I try to access the contents of the disk, it appears empty. This happens with various disks, both DVDs and CDs.

Curiously, when I insert an audio CD, although the same thing happens (disk spins, appears empty within Explorer), I can access and play the songs from the CD via Windows Media Player.

The drive is the E:// on my PC. This reads ?DVD-ROM? (I think) prior to inserting a disk. When I insert a disk, whether it be a DVD or CD, it changes to ?CD Writer?.

I recently had a problem with my PC whereby the blue screen of death would appear on boot up with the error ?UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_ERROR?. I fixed this by running the XP Recovery disk. Perhaps this has deleted the DVD writer drivers or something?

If anyone can assist me with this I will be eternally grateful!
