Hello all,
I'm trying to fix my brother-in-law's ps2 Ver.7 . He told me it originaly displayed disc error and wouldnt open. I'm assuming the damage to the ribbon cable was from him prying open the ps2 several times in a fix attempt. I have cleaned the laser,and reassembled. Deck will power up,but wont eject. The reset light is green,and turns red if held to power down. Then pushing the eject button it power's on but doesnt eject,and there's no blue light on eject button. I'm sure there's probably some damage to the ribbon cable,but it wasnt opening before he opened the console to retrieve his game. I've been reading different threads in here and I'm guesing it could be a BC chip or a spent laser. Also, after taking the cover off the DVD drive and inserting a disc, the drive doesnt even move at all. So do you think it's the BC or the Laser, or something else perhaps. Thank you, JB

even if the laser were bad i would think it would still spin, it just would not read the disc. and the disc spinning and the tray ejecting wo0uld be 2 different problems i would think. Unless the same motor functions both the open/close and disc spinning.
The disc tray could be the ribbon, possible also that it is just off track.
Does it make a sound like it is attempting to open?

Thanks for your response. The part about the tray not opening but the drive should still spin has got me stumped too.Like I said my Brother-in-law stated that it read disc error and would'nt open. I dont know is it was spinning before he got into it or not. As for the tray being off track, I dont think so. It's not making any sound like it's trying to open. I'd like some more responses before I try anything like BC chip, or new laser. I've got my V.9 apart right now and am about to put in a DSM4 EZI Pro, but I really dont want to take the laser out of it unless you think it's a fairly easy task? Just hate to dump too much into an old PS2. JB
