swapping the top half to a new fliptop is easy, but swapping the bottom means taking apart the whole ps2.

I would go with Norcalmods.com I have had him install 2 chips and just look at his installation pictures... they are a piece of art. My modchip works perfect and I'm getting a Crystal Chip 1.1 installed right now, it even auto patches games for online support.

Yeah good decision. The Crystal Chip 1.1 is a fine chip. Spedmetal is reputable, so I think you made a wise decision. Cheers!

I'm also in the process of getting a crystal chip from norcalmods. Since it auto patches the DNA$ I assume it doesn't need to be put in stealth mode to play online. Anyone know about this? Also, I was wondering if anyone has had any success with the hard drive connect for the slim pstwo. Basically I was wondering if it is worth getting it installed as well, so that way I can take full advantage of my system, and reduce the wear on my laser since it's a v12.

slim pstwo with swapmagic 3.6

successfully backed up:
Aeon Flux, MVP Baseball '05, Madden '06, World Soccer Winning Eleven 9, X-men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse, REZ, Guitar Hero, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, From Russia With Love, Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry 3 Dante's Awakening Special Edition, Transformers, Mega Man X Collection, The Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, The Path of Neo, Shadow of the Colossus

You're getting a laser fix installed as well, correct? The v.12's require a laser fix or it'll get fried. I dunno if HD Connect is worthwhile, it's a little expensive, so you'll just have to look around for that. Here's some info which should help: http://www.ps2hd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1684
