Help me figure out if my ps2 is modded

I bought my slimline ps2 (V12) used at gamestop after hearing the guy who traded it in say it was modded. My main problem is just trying to figure out what chip is in it. I have takem my ps2 apart some, but I do not want to forget how I took it apart. I have burned several ps2 games but have yet to have one work without any swaping. I used good quality sony brand dvd-r's but I have used dvd+r's too. I have tried Killzone, and a few other games. So if anyone could tell me what to look for, or what I can try to find out which (and/or if) my ps2 is really modded. I have sucessfully played Medievel for Ps1 on the ps2 by swapping discs. But I dont know how to do it for ps2 games. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I doubt its modded, but the only way to tell is to really take it apart and see if there is a chip.
