Hi all - great forum, been reading for a while and decided to sign up and contribute a little, but firstly I have a problem that I'm gutted about.....
I have a large collection of videos, footy, comedy etc stretching back to 1982, which I've been converting onto DVD for some time. I'm down from roughly 240 tapes to about my last 60, so a lot has already been done.
To do the job, I bought an LG DR4810 DVD recorder (-R,-RW), which looked a great piece of kit, until I started to use it!
It's extremely unreliable, but I worked around its quirks to get the job done and preserve my precious tapes, making DVD compilations to keep.
Recently, I got the old "please wait" error, whereby on start up the screen displyas this message and stays like that. It's a common fault, as this is my second LG DR48210 and it did the same and it was replaced. As my guarantee has run out, I called LG who put me in touch with a local engineer, the only one for about 60 miles, who informed me that "we won't touch it, we only do plasmas". I contacted LG, they notified me that they had recieved my correspondance and that engineers were looking into it. That was 2 months ago. I've tried everything; power off for days, etc etc - it's dead!
My BIG problem now is that I have roughly 40 DVD-R discs recorded in video mode that need finalizing, or I've lost the lot. No other DVD recorder will recognise them and nor will the PC. It seems that LG use a crappy format that nothing else will recognise.
In Summary;
The LG recorder is dead - wont boot or even open tray.
Discs need to be finalized
No other DVD Recorder tried will recognise the discs
Nero can see the disc, but cannot add to nor finalise.
Any help much appreciated, many memories could be lost!
