Paper clips can short circuit V13/14 PS2s?

A member of the afterdawn forums called Ace_2 informed me that inserting paper clips into sensor C found here...

... would short circuit the V13 or V14 PS2 (V12s don't need it because the straw method works).

Is there any alternative to a paper clip to insert into sensor C? Or would inserting a paper clip really be a bad choice, and the only way to go would be tape mod found here?

i wouldnt do it, seeing as i dont have a v13/14, and i have a v12. it is metal and if it touches somwthing not so good with metal, it could blow up. not blow up but u know what i mean. before i got a flip top, which doesnt flip top anymore, i used to use the tape mod. works really really well. if you look at the thread in my sig, at number 7, youll see some extra pictures by me and you can use those if you need. good luck,


p.s. if you dso decide to use the tape mode, DONT use scotch tape. i think KC(number go here) saiad there like a whoooooooole bunch of static electricity coming out when you strip the tape off the roll. that will damge your ps2 worse. so use good ol duct tape :)

Pspness: how would I remove those black squares at the bottom of the PS2? I'm a complete n00b with opening PS2s. I'm guessing that the black squares are merely coverings blocking the screws, but I have no idea how to even remove the black squares. Also, do I need special thin screwdrivers to unscrew those screws?
