I just bought a broken PS2 V5. It turns out that it does not have any video or audio output. Could somebaody tell my what ate the possible causes?

Could be any number of things man. Was it opened? Do the reset/eject lights come on? Does the tray eject?

All the lights come on (Reset/Eject Light). It was opened before. The ribbon cable for the controller inputs to the motherboard was pulled off. I had to glue the end to the motherboard. The clip that holds the ribbon was missing and the cable would not stay in place. The tray does eject when I press the eject botton. Any ideas?

I bought it like that. I knew it was broken bot that is all I knew. Do you mean the fuse on the power supply? It powers up. is there another fuse some place I can check?

there are around 14 surface mounted fuses you can check that are on the motherboard

Thanks, should I use a multimeter in the risistance mode and probe each of these fuses to see it one hace an open?

Yes or if your meter has a continuity checker just use that.

I checked all the fuses. All are ok except for PS7. That fuse measured 16kohms. Is this why I get no video and sound? What do I do next?

Hi. How did u go with ur fix? As i c the above fuse plan the problem area should b around PS11 as this is the chip[the 1 with the hunk of thermal rubber on top] (chip is replaceable) that controls the AV etc

PS11 is a 12v fuse. I don't if the chip next to it is A/V chip. Fuse PS7 is the fuse that measures 16kohms. I should be a short.

DONT SHORT IT!!!!! If the problem that caused the fuse to blow in the first place is still there your just asking for more serious issues if you dont have protection from a fuse. Just run out to the local electronics place and get some .7amp fuses to replace it with. you will have to remove the old fuse and solder in the new one.

well duh the fuse should read AS SHORT CIRCUIT TO THE MULTIMETER
any fuse wire approx the same value will work if there is a dead short u already have a serious problem. & yes i would try just shorting it first off. As spedmetal correctly says this can cause larger problems. It has been my experience (20 years electronics tech) that all LSI or VLSI chips (very large scale intergration) have over voltage/current built into them so a short doesnt transmit from one chip to another killing the whole machine b4 the power goes down (we r talking milli seconds here) This is a longwinded way of saying, shorting the fuse for a couple of seconds while u boot 2 c if all is well, is unlikely to transmit any problem that isnt already there. If the machine is stuffed whats the loss? Still needs a new chip if all is well u go buy a bit of fuse wire.

Just use a fuse bud easier then screwing around abd you know your not riscking anything

Where can I buy 0.7A fuse? Digikey will charge me $5 shipping. More than the fuse is worth?
