I was asked a rather odd question by a friend and thought I'd pose it to the experts here:

Is it possible to copy/duplicate/clone a regular, unprotected CD-ROM to a CD-RW (especially with Nero)? Of course I can clone to a CD-R, but my friend wants to use CD-RW's instead so that he can re-use the CD when he no longer needs the duplicated stuff.

Also, I was wondering if Nero Burning ROM in any way supported CD-RW's, or is InCD the only Nero component that works with CD-RW's?

Thanks.

I use CDRW's all the time to test things before I commit them to CDR's.

You can use any programs to burn to a CDRW so it doesn't necessarily have to be Nero.

Of course if the software is copy protected, Nero won't be of much help.

The only known (to me) limitation is that some consoles (e.g. PSX or PS2) cannot read CD-RW media.

Thanks for the feedback, but it still doesn't quite address my problem.

Let me restate my problem. I'd like to copy a BOOTABLE, UNPROTECTED data CD-ROM to a CD-RW, while retaining the CD-RW's ability to be erased and re-written to in the future. I guess what I'm looking for is a DOS-like DISKCOPY type utility that can copy one CD (CD-ROM/CD-R/CD-whatever) to a CD-RW. I know I can use any CD burning software to dupe a CD to a CD-RW, but the CD-RW ends up just like a non-rewritable CD-R.

I suppose what I'm looking for doesn't exist or is impossible, especially given the fact that after you format a CD-RW for packet writing, your free space is reduced to about 500+MB, which makes duping full CD's impossible. But I thought I'd ask anyway, just in case someone has a miracle solution that I haven't come across.

Actually, it's my boss that wants to do this, not me :-)

You can copy a cd to a CD-RW, just like you copy to a CD-R. And you can always erase the disc afterwards. But after a disc-to-disc copy, you can't use the disc for packet writing. You need to perform a full erase before re-use.

The old school is back. All hail the new http://BitBurners.com !

According to this, say I put in the CD-RW device a brand-new CD-RW (no format at all) and I try to copy the CD you were talking about into it,

1.- I understand there shouldn't be any problems with the copy.
2.- I also understand I can delete it back and copy another one.
3.- Do I need Multisession?
4.- I guess I shouldn't finalize the CD.
5.- From what you said above, I think I should be able to delete any CD-RW even if I have finalize it on beforehand...

I think my CD-RW is not working fine but people at the shop keep on telling me I'm doing something wrong (which I can't believe). According to them I need to format (or quick erase) every brand-new cd-rw, and always copy it with multi-session....

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!

Treat the CDRW burn as though it was a CDR.

It doesn't matter how you burn to the CDRW, b/c you can always erase it and use it again in the future.

As already mentioned, not all devices treat CDRW's like a CDR.
