I was given an Emerson DVD recorder/player for Christmas. THe model number is EWR20V5.

I taped a show for my child. No problem there, but how do I finalize the dvd? I can't figure it out. And if I remove it from the machine, can I put it back in later to finalize it?

I am pretty computer literate - not so much other devices!

I greatly appreciate any help you can throw my way.

I think thats covered in the manual on page 36..... Hit setup on the remote, scroll down to DISC, hit enter, Choose Finalize, it will ask you to confirm, hit yes and Enter and wait for it to quit. It'll throw up a menu on the tv screen when its finished.

Thanks for responding - I did finally figure out how to do that, by pushing different buttons, etc. My unit didn't come with a manual - just a "quick start" type of guide that was only four pages.

I did notice that when the dvd was done finalizing, there was some kind of generic title on the screen. Is it possible to change that to something more appropriate?

I'll call Emerson and ask for a manual - but I very much appreciate your help.

Sure you can, up to the limit of characters you can add anything on the title bar. (I'd be after somebody for a manual, bad as it is-it comes in handy sometimes)
Remote-choose Advance Settings.....SETUP &enter then DISCK &enter
TITLE LIST &enter, USE arrows to move to the recorded selection you want to 'title', once you got it, its highlighted. Hit enter again, and using arrow buttons again-scroll down to Edit Title Name. Letters & numbers avail by scrolling up/down, punctuation marks etc, on the bottom row of options (U enter them by repeatedly pushing the #1 key until the character u want comes up in the title you're making) When done, hit enter-yes to confirm=then hit the setup button to exit and save it.
You can change the title later as long as you havent finalized disk.

The first disc I made with this unit, dubbing from a VHS to disc, the disc skipped in at least one place when playing the disc back on another DVD player. The Emerson deck's burning speed is set way too high and it's too bad you can't change it to a lower burning speed.

The Emerson burns at 2x's.

It only accepts 8x dvd's.

So it burns slow.
