this new protection that keeps comming out is really getting on my last nerve. i think they are going to cut off there nose to spite there face. i just got the movie "dark water". this thing wont even play on 2 of my stand alones. its getting bad when u have to rip a movie before u can even play it. if they keep this up people are going to stop buying dvds because they wont play. has anyone else had this problem? i think there getting way out of hand when store bought dvds wont play on some dvd players.

Gene Siskel was the man,

I agree its sad when the companys blame everyone but themselves
for low box office turnouts therefore trying to 'protect' there product by adding files that wont allow the movie to run on
older dvd players.

Rather than look at the movies they have been producing,
(Brokeback mountain up for 8 emmy awards)
And they will realize why the box office is seeing
such a large drop off.
A movie about sexually challenged cowboys getting top honors,
Is just another reason why the movie companies are failing.

Dont get me wrong (to each his own), but its a sad state
the movie industry is in.

Can't say I've encountered any DVDs that won't play on my machine (Maybe because I've never bought one since 2004!) But the fact that it won't play on them is really, really bad. To pay money for them and have them not work and not be refundable is something that will put off a lot of people.

I agree with you Mike. Is this a conspiracy to get everyone to go out and buy the latest all singing and dancing player? Will it be that new discs will only play on those machines that have the latest firmware to deal with the studios interfering protection? We all have a way round it on this forum, but what about those who can just about switch a PC on (or don't even have 1?). I wonder what the MPAA take on this would be? Probably along the lines of "we don't give a s**t cos we got your money". And they wonder why piracy is so rampant in the world.
