Bought a spindle of 100 Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R on Ebay. Ran them through Nero and got this reading.
Manufacturer ID TYG02
Supported Speed 8x-4x
On the inner hub of the disc, it has this stamping...YG521A108089GG

Can I be assured these are real deal TYs or is something foul here?

May have jumped the gun on this posting.
Using DVDidentifyer, it states this is authentic TY media.
Am I safe to assume these reads are correct?
Just not 100% sure as of yet....don't know what you're buying on Ebay these days.

Fake, read the thread mg5pro suggested.

Taiyo Yuden rated speed & format/ media ID coding / inner hub reading
Quote:
From DocTy
4x DVD-R = TYG01 / GD00xxxx
8x DVD-R = TYG02 / GG00xxxx
16x DVD-R = TYG03 / GH00xxxx

4x DVD+R = YUDEN000T01 / i don't know cuz i don't have any :P
8x DVD+R = YUDEN000T02 / TG00xxxx
16x DVD+R = YUDEN000T03 / TH00xxxx
Your's should have said GG00xxxx in the inner hub.

@shawnki

let me put ur mind to rest...this coding that you have posted up on here, per chance is it from the CLEAR PLASTIC FAR INNER HUB part of the disc? it seems to be "etched in", rather than "laser inscribed?"

hehe, ok, this is what you should do...just OUTSIDE of this "inner hub" reading on the CLEAR part of the disc, you SHOULD see a "laser inscribed" reading that is on the SILVER PORTION of the disc, where the silver part begins and the "clear part" ends...THERE you will find the GG000xxx that i speak of in my thread~ :)

i'm thinking about re-wording what i mean when i say "inner hub" reading in my posts, some people are getting confused as to what i actually mean...this was not my intention, i just couldn't find a "better word" for it...

anyways, the Taiyo Yudens 8x DVD-R discs you got in your hands SHOULD be genuine, you are looking at a different "inner hub" reading than what i was referring to, the inner hub readings from my thread are on the beginning of the SILVER part near the hub and are "laser inscribed" on, rather than seemingly "etched" in the clear portion of the disc...

please confirm to make sure i am correct, i am 99% sure that you got AUTHENTIC TYs, however, to "seal the deal", you WILL need to find the GG000xxx hub reading on the silver portion of the disc to be 100% certain~ :)

do not trust dvdidentifier/dvdinfopro, etc. 100% when it comes to MEDIA ID coding, these are EASILY FALSIFIED and easily faked from shady media companies...namely the TYG02 coding by Taiyo Yuden..these are probably the MOST prevalent of the "fake MID" codings out there in the world today...

follow my 3 rules/guidelines for determining AUTHENTIC TYs, ALL 3 must be adhered by in order to validate a genuine claim

rated speed must be correct/ media id coding must be correct/ "inner hub" coding must also be correct....and obviously, the media MUST be "made in japan" :)

docTY~

please double check for me to let me know that i am right about this, i'm somewhat inebriated right now, but i still have the ability to reason...to a certain extent... :)

Whoa!! Until I read your post I had no idea anything was even etched on the back....but I DID find the GGxxx marking you speak of. Yeahoooo!!

Does this same identifier go for TY CD media as well? I see a PGxx marking on mine.
