Hi People,
I just bought myself a dual layer burner and want to back up my DVD-9 movies, and suggestions to what software would give the best results, I have read on the site that CCe gives the best recode, but have only seen a tutorial associating it with DVDrebuiler s/w, any advise would be appreciated.

hi :)
dvddecrypter or imageburn , both free
they handle the layer break better than any other
straight foreward iso read/ iso write
with DVD43 in the back ground

CCE is not needed(i think)because with the d/l disc your doing a straight up 1 to 1 copy. DvdDecrypter-Mode read iso then pick the mds file it contains the layer break info. DvdD and AnyDVD make a great couple.

Ripped "Bourne Supremacy" as an iso last night with no probs,just waiting for my d/l disks to arrive. -r's always seem to play better for me on more players.

actually, that would hold true for SINGLE LAYER DVD-R media, however, you are in a completely different ballpark when you go into DUAL LAYER/ DL media~ :)
i am hoping for YOUR sake that the DVD-R DL discs will be compatible with your standalones, when people go to DL, MOST go with the DVD+R DL and booktype them to dvd-rom for best compatibility~ :)
i'm not familiar with your particular model of Pioneer burner as it's fairly new, i hope you are using the 1.06 firmware for it regardless, i also don't know what this firmware incorporates, do you know if this firmware automatically booktypes dvd+r/dvd+r DL to dvd-rom? (this was true with the Pioneer dvr-110D, but i don't know about the dvr-111D) :)
and all the older Pioneer burners do NOT have the booktyping option UNLESS you used modified/hacked firmware to enable it~ i know as i have a Pioneer dvr-109 with Buffalo firmware for booktyping~ :)
juss curious and wishing you the best of luck with your DVD-R DLs when you receive them...as to compatibility, guess you will find out soon enough once they arrive~ :)

me bad, (slap on wrist) forgot to say that i use +r as well. as the DOC has said, i think that nearly all of us use +r booktyped -rom now adays, as experience has shown us that's the way to go

Hi again,
Got my DVD-R's this morning, tried a test write of my iso with dvddecrypter at 4X and I got a stall at 6.6 gigs, PC hung and would not shut down AnyDVD, so I did a hard restart, tried again at maximum write test went all OK, so tried anothe rtest at 4X again, PC hung again at 1 gig. Had to do a hard restart again. I think my copy of AnyDVD version 2.0.0.4 might be at fault. Where can I download DVD43 from now it has been removed from afterdawn. and does anyone have anymore ideas of my problem.

if you have it on your HDD as suggested, it will have nothing to do with AnyDVD because it has already been decoded.
it sounds more like a lack of free memory (ram)or a lack of HDD space.
you'll need at least 256mb of free memory and about 16gb of HDD space
also try burning at 2.4x

Thanks for replying,
I have 1256mb ram and 250 gig sata hard drive, I gave up on that movie last night and put it down to the write protection on bourne supremacy. I did star wars, revenge of the sith. Burned first try on D/L dvd-r and plays on all my players in the house (Liteon dvd/hard drive recorder, pioneer dvd, nextbase hand held, a chinese thing in the bedroom, PS2, will try my car dvd later). Yes i agree that it was not anydvd or dvd43, however when I had them enabled bourne would not do a test burn at set speed 4x only when i set it to burn at maximum would it test burn the whole disk, I don't like being beaten so I did a file extraction of bourne and burned just the movie files with clonedvd2 to a dvd5, burned with no problems.
Hope this helps others and thanks for the help.

My method for DL backups:
1) Rip with AnyDVD/DVD Decrypter (file mode)
2) Remove all warning nonsense with VobBlanker
3) Create an ISO with IFOEdit or ImgTool
4) Burn with ImgBurn (including verify, just for the hell of it)
Takes a touch longer but I despise warning messages, etc. (especially those which prevent your remote's menu button from working)
