Ok my current pc specs are

Celeron 2.6ghz
32MBddr video card
512mb-ddr ram
200gig hard drive

I dont play games, I dont watch movies it is mainly for work and school. But sometimes it is rather slow on loading a few things and can sometimes get rather laggy and freeze up when I have a few windows. Now should I upgrade my video card or go with the extra ram? Mind you I dont play games nor do I watch movies really on my pc...

both will improve your performance
but considering your usage I would go with ram
by your specs I wouldnt expect freezes check your system for spyware viruses do a defrag, a disc cleanup and check for updated drivers

Cool, I defragged and cleaned up my pc a lot freeing up over 3gigs of GARBAGE!...Runs a lot smoother and I have about 275mb of free ram at all times now....

A lot of times I will download and convert movies...If I upgraded to a video card that is better would I get better performance on that as well as overall pc performance?

Also what is generally the best spyware/virus program? I hate a lot of them they usually steal ram and make your pc run rather slow...Is their anyone I dont have to have running at all times and could do a scan each morning or something?

a graphics upgrade will improve dvd video performance and for spyware programs that arent memory resident adaware & Spybot fprot is a good non resident anti virus but has to be updated manualy and in the case of antivirus programs I really think they need to be running in the background to provide good security avg free is pretty lite on system resources

Cool will look into those, I use to have adaware and the updates werent a problem.

So overall the best thing I could do to my pc to give me better performance overall would be a better video card?

Alright then...Im on a tight budget (college student) and found a pretty good deal on 512mb ram ($24.99 after rebates)which should boost my computers performance tremendously. So perhaps I will snag that and pick up a better video card down the line (possibly even better since price drops frequently)....Thanks for the help.

It's Kingston, I already own a stick of the same kind so it shouldnt be a problem...My motherboard has enough space of up two 2gigs of ddr ram...I am all set and hopefully will be looking for a new video card in a few months. Thanks for your help.
