i have a really small image that i want to enlarge without looseing quality. it already seems low quality already so im actually looking to enlarge it and add quality are there any programs that will allow me to do this? the pic is 68x90 i want it about 340x450. thanks in advanced.

The answer is simple no. There's no way to get more picture information while enlarging an image. Only if the graphics were simple enough, then it could be possible, but otherwise no. If you post the picture, then I can check it out?

You watch way too much tv :D If you watch CSI and see their image manipulation, it's plain bs for 99,7% of the time. There's no way that computer could calculate more information to an image. The only way would be if your picture would be vector graphics, which I highly doubt.

photoshop has it built in where if you increase the "image size" under "Image" by [u]110%[/u] and ONLY 110%, it will do a quite decent job at increasing the size with minimal loss of resolution.
The drawback, however, is that this will only work twice or 3 times max, although people have said they've done it six times.

you have to realize that when polic take pictures they use the top-of-the-line stuff(10-12MP I would assume)...meaning that although something LOOKS like its the sixe of a thumbnail it can be blown up a few hundred times larger to its ACTUAL size.

Of course you can increase the image size more than 110%, even 6000% if you like.

yes, but 110% apparently photoshop resamples the image to size up with as little resolution and quality loss as possible.
example:
open pic
increase size 110% and "Ok"
*picture size increases*
increase size 110% and "Ok"
*picture size increases*
and so on. However, I really don't know how lucky you will be with this method if the image is so small.

It doesn't matter if you put 110% at a time or the whole percentage once. I believe that it's even worse to always increase only 110%, because on every resize quality gets worse. So it's better to do it just once.

Photoshop is not free, it costs damn much. But you could try app called gimp, it's free and quite good image manipulation program.
