no you dont have to swap disks to play backups and the best chip is either the dms4 se pro or any of the dms4 and matrix infinity green dot, these two are good because you can flash them for updates after downloading them for FREE from ther websites. the bad thing about matrix infinity is that you can pick up fakes easily, so if you try to flash them you could fry your whole ps2. i would advice the dms4.
they also have the best solderless chip.
visit this website it will tell you all you need to know and where you can buy modchips.

I did quite a bit of research on the DMS4 solderless, and I would reccommend against it, from a thread I read they found that 99% of the problems were from installation, mainly because of the VERY small pins. I just moded my first PS2 on my own with a DMS4 lite W/TOXIC 1.4. Its not easy by any means, but in my opinion the margian of error is less with a slodered chip IF you pay attention and no the does and dont's

my ps2

Good decision Joker. Davbere calls the DMSEZI chips the DMS EZI die chips. If you look at the dms3.com forums, that's not far from the truth. Check the Modchip FAQ in my sig for info on quality solder chips and installers.
