Hi, I have a hook up for the Sony SLV-RU5C ($120) and the JVC S3800U ($50).

I've been hearing really good stuff about the SLV-RU5C. According to alot of the souces I've come across, "it's probably one of the best S-VHS decks ever made" (I would presume that it should be at an original retail of $1400). And from what I've gathered, people are still trying to acquire this deck, and willing to dish out at least $200+ for it.

But it's an S-VHS deck, just like the JVC S3800U (which came out a few years later at a retail value of $280). How do they compare? I ask this question taking into account S-VHS technology has progressed and price has dropped by the time the JVC came out. Just like today, DVD players are cheaper and better than when they first came out.

Also, does anyone know if the SLV-RU5C has a TBC (time base corrector) built in? And on this topic, if the S3800U has one also.

Thanks in advance.
