that word is actually a picture, you cant change the text but you can change the whole picture, google for a program called "logon xp"

Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE

set of monitors on the way soon :P

I beg to differ. You can change the text using ResHacker. Along with everything else the logon screen says, such as 'type in your password'...etc.

Copy your original logonui.exe file from the System32 folder to the desktop. Leave that there for backup.

Open ResHacker. Go to File, Open, and open the logonui.exe file from the System32 folder. You will see some folders on the right hand side, click the + in front of String Table. Click on the + in front of 1, then click on the icon 1033. Now, on the left hand side you will see some text. Number 7 is what you need. Click inside the quotes, and change the text. Make sure you keep those quotes there.

When you are done, click File, Save. (not Save As)

Reboot or logoff to see the changes. If anything goes wrong on the reboot, Windows will get you back to your desktop, then just copy your original back to the System32 folder.

After you've made changes to the file, and you close the program, it will ask you if you want to save the changes, just click on Yes. If it won't save, you might have to change the properties of the file, by unchecking Read Only. (right click, properties)

One thing I forgot to add, is that the logonui.exe file may be a protected system file, and Windows will not let you change that file all by itself. So, you may have to chose a different location to save the modified file, and use another technique to replace the original.

You could try several different things. Replace the file in Safe Mode, use a replacer program found at some theme sites, turn Windows File Protection off (not recommended) or use programs like StyleXP. StyleXP doesn't replace the real system files, it tells Windows to use the files you've chosen, thus protecting the originals.

Keep in mind, that modifying system files can cause the system to either crash, become unbootable, or not work as expected. Do this at your own risk.
