Does this boot disc and other boot discs such as this one work just like a mod chip does? Are there any exceptions? Has anyone ever tried using this method? I appreciate your replies. Thanks

I assume you are talking about swap magic 3.6 I use it and find it boots about 99% of ps2 games for ps1 games you will need another dis called breaker pro if your wondering about a certain game post it in the forum someone will have tried it
you must use a tool with it to stop your ps2 detecting that it has had the tray/lid opened
the tools are specific to your version

v4-v11 (fat ps2) = slide tool
V12 Black = slimtool or magic keys II
V12 platinum = magic keys II
v13-v14 = magic keys II
all versions can use flip top but it will void your warraty as you must break the seals to install it
