ViperGC Extreme's BIOS doesn't support flashing to it's extra on board memory yet, so you can't flash a DivX player to it. You're best bet is to burn it to a disc with whatever file you want to watch and run it from the disc.
Also, you might want to worry more about getting that case and chip installed. Flashing it is relatively simple in comparison to the installation.

sooo
NONE of the bios's support that yet?
and if so do you think they'll eventually make a bios which can?
and is there any other way to git a media player of any sort onto the chip
?
thanks

Some of people that post on this board prefer using GCoS instead of the Cobra BIOS since it supports video forcing.
However, GCoS doesn't support ViperGC Extreme's ability to rip games via USB, so if you use that, don't switch over.
Also, the Cobra BIOS doesn't support all the chip's features yet, which is why you can't store apps on the chip yet. Don't know when they'll get around to implementing it though.
Basically, you can't flash the DivX player onto ViperGC Extreme yet, only Qoob Pro.

this is completey off subject
but ive herd
i dont remeber if it was for quoob pro or viper xtreme
but ive herd you kan flash or code linux onto the chip
or somethin
and if that was true in viper xtremes case
they have something called mplayer for linux
and if you code source it or w/e that means onto it
could it then read dvd's
im really confused and im tryin to make alot of decisions about wat im going to do with my cube and the chip etc.
either to use a viper bios
or gcos
and i had no idea you couldnt flash apps. onto its extra onboard memory on the viper xtreme
and i pray that they'll come up with a new bios soon

Yeah, there's a Linux distro called GClinux but I couldn't begin to tell you how to use it. I looked around on their wiki, and it does seems like they got mplayer to work on GC, but getting GClinux to even boot is a nightmare in and of itself since it requires a computer to be streaming Linux data to the GC. Not to mention that it can corrupt the GC's firmware if it isn't shut down properly.
If you don't plan on ripping games using USB, it doesn't matter whether you choose to use GCoS or Cobra. They both work well.

Unless you plan on playing games that won't work with your TV (PAL on NTSC or NTSC on PAL), you should just use Cobra BIOS, as that's the only reason people have been using it.
