Hello,

I've got a JVC XV-S42 DVD player that supposedly doesn't support the SVCD standard. I have tried using SVCD mpegs with the well documented VCD header trick. The resulting (non-standard) VCD plays fine in WinDVD, but not so on the JVC DVD player. The picture randomly half fills with green blocks, the audio is broken up, and the time display on the front of the player does not 'tick' consistently (indicating it cant cope with the stream somehow?).

I immediately assumed that the VCD header trick just (for whatever reason) does not work with the JVC DVD player, however I have read of other peoples successes with this exact player on various other websites.

I have tried encoding as PAL (I'm in the UK), NTSC, using various medias (various brands of CDR and CD-RW), and various sources of movie (divX .avi, xVid .avi, and pre-encoded SVCDs), but everytime I get exactly the same results.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or some pointers?
