im currently using a swap magic 2.0. i've been having a few problems lately. my ps2 is an old model, 3600 i think, that i got about 4 years ago.

starting last week, i was playing grandia iii with my friend's copy. the gameplay was fine, but the movies skipped suddenly and frequently. like the intro movie with the plane contest skipped after the first second and the one in the woods where you get your third character. i tried downloading my own and burning it. i saw the intro movie, but as i progressed through the game, most of the scenes would skip right when the characters are talking or after they talk. i tried restarting again with my disc, and the intro movie skipped about halfway. i said screw it and play as is. i got to see most of the scenes, sometimes fully.

then the game im playing now is having difficulties too, MS Saga. during gameplay, the background music would stop abruptly but i can still hear sound effects from characters or from pushing buttons. the sounds would sometimes stop during FMVs too.

i tried Black today and i get stutter before the "Press the start button" screen. the FMV intro repeated frames so much that i stopped.

this didn't happen when i played Tales of Legendia before Grandia. my gameplay was flawless with ToL. now i'm wondering if it's my dvd burner, my ps2, or my outdated swap magic. i tried cleaning my dvd burner with a cleaning cd with a brush that supposedly cleans the lenses. i use alcohol120% to burn. games are burned on sony-r or tdk-r at 4x (the lowest it can go). any advice would be helpful. thank you.

Well all I can really say is that you are using the cheap media, I suggest moving to taiyo yuden ( good deals online) or verbatim, you might also want to run your lens cleaner in your ps2
