Hey, only about a week ago I had a guy install a modchip on my brand new V13 slimline PS2. The only chip he had available was a modbo v1.1. After I got it back, the PS2 had a bulge in the bottom where he had placed a glass fuse after blowing one of the ones on the board. 3 days ago I switched backups, and suddenly got the redscreen asking to put in a real disc. It had done this one or two times recently just before this, so I thought nothing of it and tried to boot the disc again. Since then I was unable to boot backup games anymore, but I was able to play the original discs. The odd thing is that I could get into the modchip boot menu. I opened it up and saw that a wire was loose after poking around (I'm not sure if I knocked it loose then or if it was before)

2 days ago I gave it back to the guy, and today recieved it back. He had resoldered the wire, but I don't think he tested the system. It still does the same crap and I can't play backups, so no change. The other wierd thing is that it doesnt turn on right away, but gives a black screen at first until you hit reset (it also did this before having him fix the console).

Could the modchip be fried? Or are there other possible problems? Should he be redoing the job for free? Or perhaps just give me my money back so I can go somewhere that I can get a real chip instead of a clone.

basically, modbo 1.1 was reported to have lots of problems. I have never used it and i dont know the problems, but i know modbo 2.1 works very well.

as for the black screen, it is the standard procedure as the mod chip waits for a controller input for special functions, like pressing select for quick boot. however, i dont really recommend using them on chips other then the real Matrix Infinity, DMS series or equivalent.

by the way, modbo 2.1 has been out for a long time. i suggest you get a refund or some compensation, because the chip used is really too old and not worth paying for.
