I just bought a Maxtor 100gb SATA HDD. I am a newbie with SATA drives. Now my problem, I want to install my OS on the SATA drive I want it to be my primary but i want to keep my old drives there for storage. My setup right now looks something like this:

SATA1 : Maxtor 100GB HDD

Primary IDE : Maxtor 80GB HDD ATA133[master]
:Seagate 160GB ATA100 [slave]

Secondary IDE : DVD burner[master]
: 2nd DVD burner[slave]

what do need to change?

I have already tried a few jumper changes i put the Maxtor ATA133 80 as slave but then when i tried to reinstall, windows didnt know any of my drives were there besides my SATA.

I switched it the Maxtor ATA133 back to master and tried to install windows on the SATA drive but windows only allowed me to put it back on my current primary[Maxtor 80 ATA133]

Should I just unplug the IDE drives, and just have the SATA drive in then reinstall, and then after reinstall, plug them back in.
This is all real confusing to me I am having a lot of trouble with this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you need the sata driver... its probably on the cd that came with your motherboard... stick it in the drive when your booting the pc to make a driver disk... then press f6 at the begining of XP setup to install the sata driver ;P
