I wanted to check the firm ware on the dvd rom drive. Does anyone know if the firmware for a a sony non oem will work with it. thanks for the help

A bad firmware flash can ruin your drive. Is the drive you are asking about the 710 in your sig?

If it is actually a Lite-ON, BSOY is here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

You can find out which you have using DVD Decrypter's find firmware feature.
