Help! NFS: High Stakes crashes the computer!

I bought Need for Speed: High Stakes on eBay for my grandson. I have a CD that looks original to me. It seemed to install OK, but after the program runs for about 2 minutes it crashes the computer. The computer shuts down and then reboots. I don't know where to begin figuring this out!

My grandson has Need for Speed: Underground and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit installed on this computer already. Both of them run fine. I don't think the problem is with the computer/hardware...I think it is something specific to this program. Any suggestions?

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
RAM = 2 x 256 MB (DDR 333) = 512 MB total
MOTHERBOARD = ASUS A7V266-E/AA
nVidia GeForce 2 MX 400 (with latest drivers)
Windows XP Home with SP2
