I'm very new to the Gamecube Scene (thanks Digg!) so please excuse me if any of these questions seem dumb. I'd previously only had experience with the XBOX Scene, so my knowledge is limmited. Anyway, here we go:

Q1. Is there a list of which Gamecube drives use which types of DVD-ROMs? And the media that's best for each?

Q2. Is there such a thing as DVD+R mini's? Do they work?

Q3. Has anyone modified the firmware of their DVD+ writer to support DVD- with success? Found mine listed here:
http://etna.rpc1.org/nec/nec1100%20to%201300.html

Q4. The POD mod. Is that nothing more than tweaking a potentiometer to make your Gamecube's laser more powerful?

Q1. Most of us just use DVD-R, whereas a few have better results using DVD+R. My suggestion is to use DVD-R, and if you have some spare DVD+R lying around, go ahead and see if those work as well.

Q2. I don't see why there wouldn't be any mini DVD+R, but they'd have the same success rate as the full size, which seems to be based completely on a GC to GC basis.

Q3. I have a multiformat burner, so I didn't have to.

Q4. Huh? I've never heard of anything referred to as a POD mod.

POT = potentiometer. (not POD)

you'll need an ohmmeter/multi-meter to measure the resistance of your POT. here's a guide from Mod That Cube: http://modthatcube.pxn-os.org/content/pot.htm (scroll down..)

i haven't seen a list for different gamecube dvd drives, but i've seen the Ritek Ridata G04 DVD-R minis mentioned a lot on this site and others. i just recently bought 50 for $24.50+shipping and burned over 20 so far with my NEC ND-3550A with excellent results. you can find them here: http://www.meritline.com/ritek-mini-dvd-r-media-4x.html

i'm not sure if you can use the DVD+Rs. if your firmware lets you, you can probably just booktype them to DVD-ROM and that should work. you'd have to search to see if your burner supports that.
