I have chosen for Firefox to be the default browser. If I click on any links in a web page, the link opens in Firefox, which is cool. However, if I click on a link in an email in Outlook Express, the link opens up in Internet Explorer. Whyyyyyyy?..? If I open the same email using web based email, no problems, it opens up in Firefox like I want it to.
Thanks Xian. Understood how to do it, but have no idea how to find a file with a .url extention. Tried the windows search, typed in .url, and all the shortcuts to various sites in favourites came up. None with .url extention. I can see all other files with their extentions like .doc, .eml, .csv etc. Just nothing with .url. The shortcuts had the IE icon. Right clicked, changed the association to FireFox, that particulat link opened with FireFox, however same result when I click on link in Outlook Express. Still opens in IE.
Open My Computer. Go to the Tools Menu and select Folder Options. Click on the File Types tab. Find URL in the Registerd File Types list. Click on it and select Change. Browse to where you have FireFox installed and select it or pick it from the list if it is listed.
You probably won't find .url type files on your PC, but in the HTML the link would be listed as URL:http://www.sitename.com and that's why Outlook tries to open it with IE. When you make FireFox the default browser it sets the .htm and .html extension to always use FireFox but not the URL filetype. I use Opera and it does the same, only sets the HTML filetypes, not the URL.
IF I recall correctly you cant change Outlook or Outlook Express's browser to anything other than IE since IE is tied into just about the whole OS/applications. Blame MS for forcing you to keep using their pisspoor browser
well if you open that in outlook express, then it should open in ie, due to the fact that ie is embedded in outlook because they are from the same company. I don't think that you can change that, can you?
