Help needed please!

I now capture with virtualdub with the codec HUFFYUV ive found capturing with virtualdub leaves me with less dropped frames than when i normally with nero vision express.

I just wondered if its possible to capture more than 4 gig with a FAT32 system.

Maybe its not possible capturing more in one single file but my question is is it possible to leave lets say a 2 hour tape recording through virtualdub splitting every 4 gig and it contining to stream record without having to sit and watch this process.

If this isn't possible how do people copy lets say a vhs tape thats 2 hours long with a lossless codec without having to mess about with virtualdub finding the exact spot the file split, to then set it all up again to record from that point.

It would take alot of time and basically messing about capturing with other programs such as nero vision express i can record with huffyuv to the size of my hard drive but the amount of dropped frames is huge in comparison to capturing with virtualdub which is why i'd prefer to capture my who tape with this program.

So how can this be left stream recording for 2 hours without having full attention? even if this means im left with 40 split 4 gig files which then can be encoded with other software.

Please help thankyou.

No you Can not Capture Files bigger than 4GB on a Fat32 File system, I would Suggest that you reformat your Drives to NTFS as it is a Much superior File system and it would Solve your Problems....

Virtual-Dub should automaticly Split your Files into 4gb Pieces if you use Fat32 without any User Input so I don"t see why you would have to Sit in Front of your PC while Captureing Just make sure you have "Multi-Segment Capture" enables and also have the "Auto Incrememt File name " setting enables as it will Name your Files Numericly so you know what order they go in....

Cheers

PS: You might also want to Check ou the "PicVideo Mjpeg" codec as it uses about half the Disk Space as HuffYUV Codec but with about the same quality and less CPU Power Just make sure the quality is set between 18 and 20 for best results....

Im very happy today I captured from VHS to my PC a whole film without giving it my full attention, Using the program VirtualDub.

Your a big help Minion i followed everything you said, It was exactly what was missing I enabled Multi-Segment Capture + Auto Incrememt File name, Although there was one more thing that you didn't cover which i had to search for it took me a while to understand which is (capture drives) which is found in options of VirtualDub i went into here and added 30 spill drives each at 2000 MB and located each one to my chosen destination which was my external hard drive.

I didn't realise i had to do this i read about it on a google seach shortly after Minion explained about Multi-Segment Capture + Auto Incrememt File name.

My other settings in VirtualDub which I configured are my tuner settings ( Video Standards PAL-l ) My capture pin and Preview pin were set as ( Frame Rate 12.000 ) ( colour space and compression RGB 24 ) + ( Output size 720 X 576 ) And using the codec HUFFYUV

Everything came out just perfect I recorded for 86 Minutes the Amount of dropped frames were only 186 in the whole movie, Using Nero vision express when i captured with HUFFYUV i couldn't capture to my external hard drive only to my built in hard drive and capturing only 15 minutes of film with Nero vision express id already drop 300 frames which shows how much more professional VirtualDub is in comparrison to Nero vision express.

Anyway with this film i captured i had a total of 20 2GB AVI Files i encoded and these files into one 4GB File using TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator the movie plays in perfect quality and all my capture problems are solved thanks to Minion and VirtualDub.

I hope reading this might help some of you people with VirtualDub.

Cheers.
