I was wondering, which softwre is best for capturing and encoding? I want to transfer to a dvd. I used windwos movie maker, the quality wasnt to bad. But when I encoded it with tmpgenc it wasn't as good. Maybe i have to change the prefences or something.Maybe a different software. Does anyone have any ideas? thanks

Well it would probably be best and easiest to Just Capture directly to Mpeg-2/DVD Format instead of Captureing to one Format and then Haveing to re-encode to DVD Format as you Loose a LOT Of quality every time you re-compress a File.....

If your Capture Card is a Plain Analogue Capture device that uses Software Compression then You can use a Program Like "InterVideo WinDVR" or "MainConcept PVR" to Capture directly to Mpeg-2/DVD Format and then all you would need to do is use a DVD Authoring Program to Put the MPEG-2 file on to DVD (Tmpgenc DVD Author or Maybe "MediaChance DVDLab (PRO)")...

Can someone tell me what bit and/framerate i should capture and encode in. Iam capturing an old world series VHS. I want to make a dvd? should i capture in mpeg1 or mpeg2 or AVI? i tried to use TMPGEnc with an mpeg2 clip and it gave me an error. Is Nero good to use? I hope someone out there can help me.

If you are useing a Mpeg capture Program then you should capture in "Mpeg-2" at 720x480 for NTSC(29.976fps) or 720x576 for Pal(25fps) and the bitrate you should use would depend on how long the Movie is....

If the Movie is a 2 hour movie then a Video bitrate of 4700kbs would be good.....

I used the ATI software to capture my video to my pc. The format is mpeg 2 480 x 240. Did I use the right software or i should of chosen something else. I different software and I don't know which is the right one. what would be my next step.? Can i use Nero or... thanks for your help.

Well the File you captured won"t work because it isn"t the Correct Resolution for DVD....

For a NTSC DVD you Need to capture at 720x480 at 29.976fps and for a PAL DVD it must be 720x576 at 25fps....

The ATI software should have a DVD Capture setting....

Once you have captured the Video you have to use a DVD authoring Program to put the MPEG-2 File on to DVD with menu"s and Chapters...

Something like "Tmpgenc DVD Author" is very easy to use....

I was doing as little test. I captured it in the wrong format but, i converted it to the right format using DivX to dvd. Iam tring to compress it using DVD Shrink. The only way i can copy it, is by copying it to a DL disk. Is there a reason why i can't shrink it. thanks..
