hi there

hope you can help me as i cant find an answer to my question in any of the forums

i have a ps2(scph-3003)which i bought on release day in the uk(dont know exact date as it was that long ago)

within 8 months of me buying the ps2 i had the unit chipped(sorry but i dont know what make the chip is,as far as i know it was the only chip available at the time as mod chips was not common as they are now

i originally used the unit for ps2 games(on cd-r)using dvd region x as the boot disc, but have only used the unit for copied dvd films(dvd-r and dvd+r)for the last few years(with no problem at all)

anyway,my point is, can i still use my ps2 with this old mod chip for new ps2 games that i download from torrentspy

if i cant, can i buy another mod chip and replace it with my old mod chip,or is it more difficult than that,

any info will be appreciated

thanks,brian

most likely a good percentage of the new games wont work, which is why the mod chips keep changing and new and improved versions keep popping up. Yes it can be sent for a remod, but the very first versions are very hard to do so. I tried modding a very old version but decided to stop as its too difficult for me.

Hi yes most of the (copied) games should play on ur old version PS2 with the old mod. The only 1's that might give u trouble is the larger(newer) games on DVD9 (dual layer 8.5gb discs)[normal DVD5 r 4.7gb] There is no need to fit a new mod however. If the old 1 is working try downloading DVDLoader (type it into the search this site) this programe will let u load later model games. The fact that u have a mod chip will enable u 2 use this software as it is copied as well(ie no boot disc, the PS2 needs the modchip 2 boot dvdloader).

Most ps2 games are now on dvd. Your chip will most likely not play burnt dvd ps2 games. If you do download them, make sure they are dvdrips that can be burnt to cd.

Why would you ever buy a Modchip that only works with CD games if there are PS2 DVD games?

v7 w/ Crystal Chip 1.1, Boot Manager 1.8, and HD Loader v0.7c w/ 80 GB HD
v7 w/ DMS4 Pro and Toxic OS .41 w/ 200 GB HD

The first series of modchips only worked for cd games (dvd burners were new technology back then).

hi guys
thanks for all your info

but there seems to be mixed views on weather my old mod chip would work on newer ps2 games,

i have opened up the ps2 and there is an "M" stamped on the chip, with 8 wires(4 each side)connected to it and with the following number:-t2c5087p,04 h57,0140,also a seperate wire with a capacitor/resistor attached to it

im not aware of any boot commands that need to be used, other then a boot disc called "dvd region x" which was given to me when i had the unit chipped

basically, loaded the "dvd region x" boot disc until it showed the main menu(6 different selection of regions 1-6)once the menu had loaded then remove the "dvd region x" boot disc then insert copied game(on cd-r)and press "start" on the controller and the game will load, very simple to use

hope the above is of any help guys

any more info would be appreciated

thanks,brian

sounds nothing at all like a Magic chip, and exactly like the first version Neo chips and they'll only boot CD-R disks.
