Jerky pictures- wot am i doin wrong?

Hi. I seem to get jerky pictures when I convert to my files with TMPGEnc to M2V and wav files and then burn to DVD to play on stand alone dvd players.

This is my process-

I convert file into MPEG2 using TMPGEnc so as I get the M2V file and wav file

I then use Ulead Movie Factory 2 to create the VIDEO_TS files.

I then burn to DVD using Nero.

The sound is spot on and even in snyc even though the picture looks jerky/jumpy as if frames are missing. Its not very noticable- only when there is more movement on the screen. How can I get the picture to run smooth? Would using Adobe Premiere get better results for converting to MPEG2? Thanx.

remove the ifo and bup files that movie factory made for you in the VIDEO_TS folder. Then open ifoedit and chose create new ifos point to the first vob file in the folder and ifoedit will do the rest. I ran into that once with movie factory. I don't know what caused it but making new ifos fixed it for me.

thanx for your reply. but could you explain in better detail how to do that using ifoedit? i had a try and didnt have a clue. i am REALLY new to this so i need clear steps. thanx.

EDIT: If i change the 'Motion search precision' option in TMPGEnc to high quality or normal then might this improve the smoothness? Or is it a problem with Ulead Movie Factory 2 only?

Not sure about the smoothness option in tmpgenc it is possible I would think. There is a couple guys that will be hitting this forum later on that will for sure be more help with that then me.

I have had the same thing in mf2 so it may just be it causing it. What worked for me was open ifoedit at the bottom of it you will notice a button called create ifo's click it. Then window will open to select the vob's. Point it to the folder you made in mf2 and choose the first vob in the set there under VIDEO_TS. Ifoedit will go through all them but you just need to select the first one to get it started. After it has processed all them close ifoedit then open it again and this time click open and point it to the video_ts.ifo and then click get vts sectors. Not sure if this is required but I did it just to be safe. Now the dvd should be ready to burn that is inside the VIDEO_TS folder that mf2 made for you. It worked for me and also someone here before that had the same thing happening.

thanx. i tried what you said but its still jumpy- like frames are missing. :(

jus looked at the file info on the avi file i'm using- it says 23.976 frames per sec which i think makes it NTSC format. should i then, when using TMPGEnc to convert to MPEG2, select NTSC instead of PAL as i had been doing? I have now selected NTSC 16:9 which is 29 fps and encoding at the moment- does that make a difference or because I have selected NTSC then it should be okay i.e. 29fps or 23 fps- it doesnt matter as long as i select NTSC?

wot i'm getting at is that cuz my avi file is 23 fps do i have to convert to 29 fps for NTSC or 25 fps for PAL? would i loose quality converting the 23 fps to 25 fps for PAL?
