if its just a video encoder your looking for AVI to mpg, wmv to AVI, etc then the full Nero suite would probably suit your needs for copying commercial protected dvd's you would need to add AnyDVD or simular

Have you tried Advanced X Video Converter? It can convert, join and split AVI, mpeg, wmv, mov, asf, dat/vcd video files.
