Hi all - I searched the threads for similar problems but couldn't find one similar. My 9-year old son recently saved enough money to buy a DMS EZ4 modchip for his V5 ps/2 and like an idiot, I told him I could install it. I have it installed and the "diagnostic" chip that came with it indicates that all is well with the install. First, we had problems not getting any audio/video so based on that, I decided to solder the ground wire to the mobo. After doing this, the unit will not power up at all! I have also replaced the eject ribbon cable, thinking that a damaged cable might be the problem, to no avail. I've now purchased a multimeter to test the circuits but I don't know the first thing about how to use it or where/what to look for. HELP ME PLEASE!! My son is anxious to play his games again! THANKS MUCH - E

DMS E.Z.I. has many problems with killing peoples MoBo's but I don't think you are solder the ground wire to the PS2. Here is a gulde somebody made on installing a DMS E.Z.I. modchip

http://ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?t=43898

I help it helps you! Oh and is it a DMS E.Z.I. Pro or Lite? if it is Pro make sure to flash it with Toxic OS .41 Bios and if it is Lite make sure to flash it with Toxic Bios. http://www.teamtoxic.com.cn/

Toxic OS makes it so you can play your games off any PS2 with a Network Adapter and a HDD.

Toxic Bios adds some extra memory card and stuff like that.

Hi to use the multimeter u need to set it to continuity (beeps when leads r touched together)[sometimes this function is intergrated in the low ohms scale] test between the pad on the motherboard(mb) & the solder joint i.e testing across(electrically) the soldered joint itself to make sure u have 0 ohms or a beep this tells u, u have a good solder repeat etc. The most common problem ive struck is people not cleaning the pad properly to get the protective coating off b4 soldering. When u solder like this the flux in the solder joins with the protective coating giving u what appears 2 b a good solder but in effect is a dry joint(high ohms or infinite ohms i.e. no connection)

THANKS for your responses - I've taken a picture and have some additional questions. I don't have a place to load it up to the web - I'm wondering if I can email it to someone? I used the multimeter in resistance (ohms) mode and I basically get a .000 reading on the grounding point, other points, etc. but between the 3 areas highlighted by arrows in the picture, I get a reading of .079 Is this supposed to happen or am I doing something incorrectly?

THANKS AGAIN,
E

I also viewed the guide that you shared - it appears that I have done everything the same.

Thanks,

You should create an account on PS2-Scene.org and then post your problems there also. Make sure you didn't bend one of the pins on the PS2 Microchips when you put the DMS E.Z.I. Clips on them. Try also not soldering in your ground so unsolder it and just put some eletrical tape down and tape it, it is a NoSolder modchip :)
