Can someone give me an idea on why my back ups are skipping. I burn the disc at 8x with a Memorex Duel Layer burner connected thru firewire. I am using DVD shrink and using the dvd decrypter to burn the dvd.iso file. Even when I use the nero part of shrink to burn it still skips. I hope some one can point me in the right direction.

Try burning at 4x, use good media Verbatim, MIJ Sony, Maxell or Fuji, and make sure your firmware is up to date for your burner. Skipping, freezing, pausing, stuttering or pixelation is usually due to burning too fast, out of date firmware or bad media.

My burner is brand new, only 2 months old. I am using Maxell and Memorex DVD-R & DVD+R disc. I made a back up of jarhead using the Memorex DVD+R, burnt it at 8x and it skipped like crazy, I redone it and slowed it down to 2x and it still skipped. I backed up Walk the line last week using the Memorex DVD+R at 2x and it worked just fine.

It doesn't matter if your burner is new, you still need to check the fw to make sure it is current. Burners sit on store shelves for months and the mfr updates fw in the meantime. As for your media Memorex is not exactly a favorite. Jarhead has newer protection on it how did you rip your movie? Try usind DVDFab Decrypter and ripping to your HDD and then use DVD Shrink. You can get the sw here and also a guide.

I always use DVD FAB decrypter to rip with and shrink to burn with. Memorex is not the only disc I use, I also use Maxell DVD-R and some of them play just fine and some of them skip. I will try and find a firmware update and see if that helps.
