Hi,

I have a few .avi files onto my computer and I want to put them onto a DVD, I tried once but the quality was terrible.
I have a few DVD burning programs, but I used Nero.
The help I request is how would I go about burning the .avi files onto DVD but also having the best quality possible.
Is this at all possible, if so how would I go about it?

Thanks

There is a sticky here at the Nero forum that has a guide by alkohol.

Take a look at that one, it might help.

Those are great guides, and i even learn something when reading them. Sometimes you can give up on Nero on the AVI conversion process and use something else to convert, but still use Nero for the burn.
AVI2DVD is one program i have used, and it is free.

it will do more than just avis also.
There are other programs, but i cant remember too many free ones that do a good job.
WinAVI cost 30 bucks or so, but does a good job, and i think they have a free trial period, but the copies have a watermark on the free version?? not sure about that last part, but i think thats the way the free vers works.

I am finding that the video file - around 700 - 800 MB, when i import them, Nero 6 is saying that the file is too big for a normal blank DVD - 4.7GB.

IS there something that I am missing out on?

Thanks

When the AVI is converted, it takes up more space to convert in to VOBs and stuff like that. Depends on how the AVI was encoded, and what program you use to convert to DVD format.
Also, maybe the version of Nero you are using is old, or the buggy one. I suggest using 6.6.0.18 as that was the last stable 6x version, but if you have a more current version, and it is working, dont go back to this version. Im not sure if the Nero 7 stuff is any better at conversions, but it might be. Of course that would mean an upgrade, but i find i like Nero 7 myself. Nero 6 was ok, but i like 7 better for what i use it mostly for, CD and MP3 making, with some DVDs done with Recode2. I dont do many AVI or file conversions very often.
