I am about to buy 8 audio CDs each containing about 25 minutes of "self-hypnose" material (not available on DVD). I want to "listen" to this in my sleep and the problem is this requires a physical change of media (waking up), if I want to listen to more than one.

So I'd like to find out if there is an easy way for me to copy those CDs to a DVD so that the (separate) DVD player will recognise it as a valid playable DVD.

Is this easy to fix and how?

I am using Linux Debian Sarge 3.1 and I have to buy the burner if the idea is feasable. The tapes are available but my impression is that getting the contents of the 8 tapes onto a DVD would not be easier.

Yes, it is possible to save your CDs to a DVD and use it in your player. What DVD player do you have? Most of them will support mp3 or WMA format. I am sure there are many programs that can do the job you want, I only use and am familiar with Nero and is easy. You will convert the audio CD traks to mp3 or WMA and then burn them to a DVD. I use Nero 7, I think depending where and what burner you buy, some come with a Nero bundle software.

Thank you for your quick answer.

The DVD player (player only) is a Sony (DVP-NS50P) purchased new one week ago. The manual says it can play:
DVD Video, DVD-RW/-R, DVD+RW/+R, VIDEOCD/, Music CD, CD-RW/-R

I will investigate what the available burning software can do, there is a fair bit available from the distro. Most of the time, the software bundled with new hardware is only suitable for Windows (I use Linux).

I've used K3B for the CDs, this is a GUI for another CD/DVD burner (Cdrecord I think).

I am not familiar with Linux, but if I am not mistaking, there is a version of Nero for Linux.
