I used DVDFab decrypter to copy the files and then I used VobBlanker. I then tried to open the video file through Dvd Shrink and it will not open.
This is the message I get:
Dvd Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
Invalid data in file "C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\My Documents\Jarhead\DVD\Video_TS\VTS_03_1.VOB"
Does anyone know what the problem is? Can this movie be backed up, or is that the problem. I am willing to buy software if that is what it is going to take, but I want to make sure.
if you do not care to spend a bit of money get AnyDVD & CloneDVD from slysoft.com this has never failed in letting me back up a movie. worth every $. you can get a discount by typing in afterdawn in the coupon or discount section.
It is true Jarhead has the latest protection(s) from Macrovision, but the usual method "DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker" worked flawlessly for me.
I ripped with DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.7.2, processed the VIDEO_TS.IFO file through VobBlankder 2.1.1.0B1 (blank out, a few unwanted extras i.e. fbi warnings, rating logos/screens, previews/trailers, etc.) and encoded with DVD-RB + CCE SP. My backup turns out perfectly fine, played flawlessly without any glitches.

I actually was able to backup this particular movie using only DVD Shrink.
However I sometimes do get the exact same error message for other movies. Most of them are actual bad pressings, but it seems your DVD files are already on your hard drive.
When you ripped it with DVDfab, did you make it a ISO disc image?
Sometimes, trying to unpack disc image files does not work all that well with programs such as WinRAR. Thus, unpacking an ISO file, then trying to open those files with DVD Shrink has gotten me the exact same error message.

Always use good quality blank media. Verbatim is always a good call. Don't be seduced by those 50-spindles you find in the $2.99 bin at your local car wash! :)

I want to thank all of you for your help. I was able to back up the movie using some of your tips. Much appreciated and I'm sure I will posting sometime in the near future.
Everytime i have problems ripping a movie its because the disc i have is crap or scratched or something. Go rent another copy and just use DVD Shrink and ill bet ya it works first try with no bullcrap. Same thing just happened to me with Jarhead.
I'm getting the same error message using the same method but with Legend of Zorro.
I was able to decrypt it using DVDFab, placed the Video_TS IFO VOB files in a folder on my hard drive. Then I used VobBlanker to process ALL of the VOB files, which completed fine.
The files are good, they play fine from my hard drive, so they ripped fine. The problem I have is with DVD Shrink, I get similar error message...
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
Invalid data in file "C:\VOBcleaned\Legends_ofZorro\\DVD\Video_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB
2bullets, which tips/suggestions did you do differently to make it work?
