My old ps2 modded with a messiah 2 pro went out the other day and I'm really in a pickle. I need to get another on, but without knowing acyually when the PS3 is coming out is making me frustrated I really wouldn't want to purchase a new ps2 and then get wor that the PS3 will be released a month later.
Anyway, being that the slim ps2 has no room for an internal HDD, will it except an external one?
As I stated earlier, I had my old ps2 modded so I really have no knowledge of getting HDD to work with ps2's. I know you have to purchase a HD Loader disc, but after one runs the HD Loader is that it? Are you ready then to play backup games and stuff? Or is there something else that needs to be modified. Is it true that you can only play backups of original games only?
If you are worried then buy a used system. Or a premodded used system. But if you do i would get an older chunky style like what you have, the slimline is not nearly as reliable, i have one.
actually i have both types and i would use the old one if the slim was not modded because i would like a hard drive and the DMS4 Pro i have in my slim has a built in HD Loader program for hard drives.
External drives i do not think will work. They may work if they are USB and you use USB Extreme instead of HD Loader, but from what i hear the UUSB is no faster than running it off a DVD so you are saving the laser but will not get the true advantage of having a hard drive like you should, or would if you installed it into the older style PS2.

It has keeled over. The only thing that comes on is the fan. It doesn't even eject anymore. I've gotten my money's worth out of it; had it for 5yrs. It had a messiah 2 pro installed in it.
I have a slimeline right now and had a couple of questions about this HDD thing. First, I noticed a network plug on the ps2, does this mean I can set up a network so that I can use my two HDDs that are installed on my pc to store and load my games from?
Also, Is the swaptrick technique still required for loading games from HDD?
If the messiah 2 pro thats in my old ps2 is still functional, can I use it in the slimline? Not likely that I'll go that route, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
If the network thing is possible, would I have to create a totally different partion for this purpose?
