What modchip would be the easiest to install? I tried to install a Magic V once... didnt go so hot. I can mod XBOX, GC, PS1, and the such and have had no problems. The only fault ive ever run into was PS2. Im thinking of doing another chip, one that has an easy install.

All the PS2 really have to do is boot imports/backups.

Modbo 2.1 is quite easy to install =)

Done it on a ps2 slim, most of the wires can be really short if the chip is placed on the right side of the BIOs points.

most people on the forums say go for the top 3 chips, but i still think cheap chips can be used if chosen correctly.

MARS and MAGIC/Muppet chips can also be done the same way. Not recommended for DMS4 Pro though, the chip is too big and too high profile. Most probably will come in contact with the shield.

all the 3 chips i mentioned only help with booting backups. they dont have the flash memory.

and yes, the ps2 is harder to mod then other consoles since their points are much smaller. i fried 2 ps2 sets first before i started to succeed, and that was only the beginning =(

hope this helps.

you haven't had allot of modding experience, the Actel chip has been downsized considerably on the SE chips and even on the old versions they were no thicker then most other chips just more prone to pressure problems.

for the original poster you didn't mention your specific PS2 version but the Magic V is a V4-V10 chip and requires about the same wire installation of any other chip for these consoles. if your skills are lacking in sufficiency to install the chip, pay someone to do it for you and go with a DMS4 Pro SE or the Matrix Infinity green dot. if your console is a V9 or 10 you need to do a Romeo mod as well.

i agree on the part on lacking of modding experience, but the DMS4 Pro is indeed a thicker chip. I compared it when i switched it to a mars chip.

i saw some of ur older posts regarding pressure and having tape over it. i took out all the tape and made sure no pressure was on the chip, but it still had the same fault (sadly!). that is why i dont recommend it if the modder is not as experienced as you are =)

also, i have read on some other forums where people have similar problems as i had. i found one on this forum with the exact same problem as mine too.

the SE version of the DMS4 has a thinner profile then Most other chips, if you had a fat chip it was not an SE.

@KC36330

I have to disagree with you. The new DMS4 SE Pro is the thickest PS2 chip on the market. The new flash memory chip that the DMS4 SE Pro uses has shrunk but at the same time got taller width wize. You are correct about the Actel chip however. They finally went back to the small Actel, instead of that HUGE Actel which I complained about from day one with the old style DMS4.

I dont know the model, its for a friend. My console is already modded. Im thinking of just sending it out, but feel that I could do it if I took my time.

I was looking at the Modbo, it seems all the points are on one side of the board. Looks much easier than what I tried to install awhile back. Ill check out the others mentioned.

Of the said chips, which is the most cost efficient?

@YoshiADF and aaur4

The Modbo and any of its variants are all clones of the Matrix Infinity. They have problem like when you try and update the flash or change any settings the modbo becomes defective. Not to mention the major defect is that they are plain and simply clones. Stay away from them and dont be a cheap ass and get a true Matrix Infinity if your going that rought. The DMS chips and be buggy at times as well and are very sensitive to installation issues. Not to mention the random BSOD issues you might get with a DMS chip.

yes , i meant the DMS4 Pro chip , not the SE one. Im not sure about the SE but spedmetal already said its still thick.

spedmetal yes ur right the modbo is a clone of the matrix infinity, but modbo v2.1 is a rather decent chip, and i've tried it. of course, clones without the flash memory cannot be upgraded. but then again, it costs like 12.45 (without shipping) and i honestly think the functions match the cheap price.

IF i am not wrong, the new Myth chip is also produced by the makers of the modbo. any comments on that chip?

and yes again, finally someone agrees that the DMS has random BSOD issues!

The Myth chip is another MI clone which will get fried with any settings adjustments or firmware upgrades. It's a waste of time and money like the Modbo, NH3, Matrix Infinity SE, and others.
