I tried putting a chip in my ps2 today and were just gonna say it didnt work. The chip is called "magic 3.1 plus". The red light is on as it always is when the console is turned off, but when i hit the eject button to open the tray, it will open and then close again. The system is running but there is nothing on the screen.
Can anyone tell me what i might have done wrong, and whether or not it is reverseable.

if there is no display, could be grounding problem and also bios connection problem.

check the wires to the bios making sure it is secured and not too long. the GND wire should also be short and thick.

take off the modchip to see if it still works if it isnt fixed.

hope this helps.

wire length is irrelevant with the Magic 3.1 so disregard the above comment on that. chances are 99.99% that it's a BIOS connection problem.

I agree with KC it could be a BIOS problem. If you solder is bridging the pins together you need to get a desoldering wick...hold the side of the tip of the iron up against it for a few seconds and pull back to try to remove solder from the BIOS chip.

Good news and bad news guys, I got the bios as cleaned up as possible. Now when I turn on the power I get the usual browser and system configuration options I always had but the music (sfx) that is normally played is all choppy and when I put a disc in, the screen will go black as if it is about to play...then it says "no data". I tried a couple other discs with the same result, any other suggestions?

"No Data' as opposed to 'Disk Read Error' is an indication of a filed input from the laser.

This can still be a problem with bridged bios legs, especially if you are getting strange sounds effects from the audio of the PS2, and yes this would also cause the browser to only appear and not be able to boot any discs. In fact I had a console here just last week that was doing just this.

If you have a DVM with a continuity checker this is the best way to look for bridged chip legs and your naked eye cant always see everything.

Good luck!
