I think that all depends of the media you have and have nothing to do with the drive cos 10 day's ago I bought 10 Princo 4x and when I tried to burn them at speed 4x Nero dropped the speed down at 1x (that was with firmware 2.0E). I upgraded to 2.0F and today I bought again 5 Princo's 4x, et voilà, burned Spiderman in around 16 mins at 3,9x. Now I test it again with firmware 2.0E to see if this depends from the media or the firmware.
I tried to update my firmware form 2.0c to 2.0F but he won't do anything. i get the screen that the program identify my DRU500AX and ejects correctly but after that he won't do anything.
How can i update my firmware... it seems to be better to update it.
I had the same. You need to UNinstall any packet writing software. That's software that make the drive work like an ordinary floppy. Packet writing software like InCD, etc.
Then it will continue updating the firmware.
I mailed with Sony technical guys and they don't know about 2.0f (!?) so my guess is to limit yourself to 2.0e, be on the safe side.
I get lucky... i found further in this forum a message that said that i had to uninstall Intel Application Accelerator. I did uninstall it and then i can update to 2.0F. It works fine with no problems whit my DRU500AX.
I don't think its definitely a media problem, as I have always used Ritek G04 and one day last week my burner just started doing them at 2x for no reason. Have tried a couple of differnt brands + batches since no joy.
